When it comes to motivate people we use strategies after strategies. Offering them incentives and bonus. Medical reimbursement and insurance. Everything is financial and greatly luring. It's like exploiting the needs to the benifits of companies. Money is a great motivator untill the need become non financial. People also like to have status and high profile. They like being famous. Fame is an inherent instinct from the very beginning of mankind. Organization and employees tend to bargain for each others need. They say you do more work, we give more money. This might feel perfectly okay for both since they are satisfied with the offer. But neither of them get anything better. There could be more work done and more money exchange, but no big difference. It applies to corporations and employees in two different ways.
1. For employees, it won't solve any of their financial problems.
2. For the companies, the graph still be the same.
Giving an interpretation might be good to understand what's really happening here.
Why isn't for employees
The money problem never fades away unless there is no desire for possession. This is a kind of buddhist way of thinking but it makes sense. It is also true that not all of us wants a buddhist life. Desire is ingrained in the primitive brain. Money can solve the instantaneous problems which eventually leads to even more bigger problem. Again salary rise is what we demand for. This is like a cyclic process, we arrive at the initial point after a couple of units. The life leaps to where the money lurks. This is an insane situation.
Definitely not for companies
When companies tries to inspire the employees with money (which is a universal motivator) they kind of loose the integrity and reputation. Each time an incentive is created through money, it's gonna compell the workers to seek for more financial incentives to do extra. They won't care about the economic status of the company. They just need what they demand for. It even get worse when they ask for more paid vacations. They don't consider they are working to make something happen nor do they care about improvement. Gradually they lose the interest and starts to suspect their stand. " Why am I working here ?" won't be too far. The company might eventually get identified by a bunch of people working for money. Every company starts with a vision and starts to shut when they veer from it.
This is observed in everywhere and consequences are clearly visible. That is why it is important to acknowledge workers on why they are working. It's not just about what they were doing there at any moment. This is about the same thing why the company stands for. It is clearly evident in people working at companies whose aim is absolutely larger and insane than their competitors. People won't quit from there. They know they are working on is larger and it exalts a sense of purpose. Working on purpose injects satisfaction.
